Gcina Mhlope is a storyteller who has been the object of observations like these. She doesn’t tell, but performs her stories, blending movement, dance and song into her delivery. Hers is a style that invokes the jazz vocalist as much as the praise singer or imbongi, and even carries the touch of the griot.

Scenes from Rural Swaziland

Nguni CowIt has been a busy day in front of the computer – but a hugely rewarding one, too. I’m delighted to share a few pictures with you from a recent trip to Swaziland, where I was captivated by the country’s morning beauty.

Here are a few shots of Nguni cattle that I found to be irresistable subjects; followed by a scene that I think wonderfully evokes a sense the of the Swazi rural areas.

Finally, see the final shot of the Swazi cow, which has been worked over with a little Photoshop magic to produce a pretty painting…
